
December 21. The longest night of the year.
The third annual Iowa Homeless Memorial was held on December 21, 2011 on the West Capitol Terrace at the State Capitol in recognition of those who’ve died homeless in Iowa.
An estimated 350 to 400 people shared this memorable candlelight vigil, which included music, poetry and prayer.

Both the Governor and Mayor presented Joppa with proclamations declaring December 21, 2011 as National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day in the State of Iowa and City of Des Moines.
These events are organized for the community by Joppa Outreach.
