4/17
& 4/24 Joppa Camp Cleanups 2010
THANK YOU to all the
volunteers, churches and other organizations who came out to help this year – you more than doubled last
year's 10 ton cleanup record.
200 Volunteers Collected 22.55 Tons
of Garbage in 6 Hours from 30 locations!
The trash was mostly from former homeless camps, which are often abandoned in the middle of winter, when everything is snow covered and frozen to the ground. The 2010 cleanups were conducted with full cooperation and assistance of our homeless community and the City of Des Moines. 12/21/09 State & City Proclamations: National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day Joppa was fortunate to receive both of the proclamations it requested; one from the City of Des Moines and another from the State.
Mayor Cownie and Governor Culver declared it National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day on December 21st, 2009 in the City of Des Moines and in the State of Iowa.
Official proclamations were presented to Joppa CEO Joe Stevens by the Mayor, City Council members, and the Office of the Governor.
